Papers of the Brockenbrough family, 1790-1842.

The collection contains two physician's account ledgers, 1790-1799 (attributed to Dr. John Brockenbrough, 1744-1804) and 1827-1842 (possibly of Dr. John Brockenbrough, 1774-1852). With these are fragments of notes on fevers possibly from lectures or readings; a letter, 1832 February 7, John Jones Roane to Austin Brockenbrough re the desire of John Myers Felder to purchase slave families; and a letter, 1839 January 7, Austin Brockenbrough to an unidentified recipient re the settlement of the estates of William L.L. Clements and Benjamin Blacke.

John Brockenbrough was born in 1774 in Essex County, Virginia. He later moved to Richmond and became President of the Bank of Virginia.
